On May 27, 1892, delegates from twenty-nine Calhoun County churches gathered in the Baptist Church at Jacksonville, Alabama.  The delegates, led by E. T. Smyth, voted unanimously that these churches be organized into an Association to be known as the Calhoun County Baptist  Association.
